2026 Exhibition: Underworld I: Fragments

Year 2026

Rocks, mountains, remnants of metal structures, a light breeze, a radiant nostalgic floor, maybe some mist, things hidden, things moving that shouldn’t move. Fragments of a reality losing its cohesion… On Saturday, March 7th, from 4 PM until late, you’re welcome to visit street gallery De Spelonk, and our house (Valkenboslaan 74, The Hague). From that day onward, we will show Underworld I: Fragments.

Frido Evers (1980, lives and works in Bærum, Norway) makes collages, drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations and once in a while a video work, where a wide variety of materials, places and realities are merged into “inner landscapes”. He is fascinated why we as humans have such a tremendous need to give meaning to our existence.

This is the first instalment of the Underworld series by Frido Evers. The Underworld is part of a triptych consisting of Harvester (life) (2019/2022/2023), Underworld (birth) (2026-) and Arcadia (death).

The idea for Underworld was sparked by the myth of Kowloon Walled City, a densely populated, ungoverned settlement in Hong Kong. It was a chaotic, labyrinthine slum that mirrored the heart of darkness in real life. For Frido Evers, the underworld represents the forgotten and neglected, a place where morals and systems are reshuffled. It is neither good nor evil, but both emerge from it.

This is a place where the world has buried itself, bearing the weight of what has been forgotten. Nothing holds real value—objects and systems are endlessly replaced, not from improvement, but indifference. It’s home to the broken and lost, where only the indifferent thrive. It is the endless day of fragmentation.

It is also a symbol for the underworld in ourselves—the parts of us we’re not proud of, distorted ideas, and all that falls apart in endless fragments.

We look forward to seeing you on March 7th, starting at 4 PM until late. Frido Evers will of course be present.
